Beyond RAGs: Building Actually Truthful AI Harnesses

Standard Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is insufficient for creating truthful AI, as simply retrieving a document does not constitute evidence for a generated claim. A more robust approach requires shifting the unit of control from documents to atomic claims, which are managed in a detailed claim ledger. This ledger tracks each claim with its specific evidence, source, and support status before any prose is generated. Such an evidence-grounded system uses a multi-layered architecture that includes policy checks and human review to ensure every material proposition is inspectable, traceable, and verifiably supported.
