Bring Your Own Agent to Zed — Featuring Gemini CLI

Third-party agents can now be used directly within the Zed code editor through a new integration feature. To facilitate this, Zed created the open-source Agent Client Protocol (ACP), which allows any compliant agent to plug into a client, much like the Language Server Protocol. The initial reference implementation was developed in partnership with Google to integrate its Gemini CLI, providing a more tightly integrated experience than a standard terminal. This protocol enables features like real-time edit visualization and multi-buffer reviews while allowing developers to choose the best agent for their workflow.
