Can AI Write Your Code?

A recent study investigated whether ChatGPT-4.0 can write correct code for complex causal inference tasks in Python, R, and Stata. Researchers rigorously tested the AI by comparing its output against benchmark solutions for methods like Difference-in-Differences and Inverse Probability Treatment Weighting. The results revealed that ChatGPT performed quite well in Python and R, generating mostly accurate code that successfully replicated the expected outcomes. However, its performance in Stata was significantly less reliable, often producing code that contained errors or required substantial manual editing to function correctly.
