From Possible to Probable AI Models

Generative AI models can produce an astonishing range of outputs, but the real challenge lies in distinguishing what is merely possible from what is consistently reliable and correct. Issues like hallucinations arise not as bugs, but from the model sampling low-probability outcomes, and a model's high confidence score does not actually guarantee its answer is correct. Furthermore, simply adding more data doesn't ensure truthfulness, as models learn dominant patterns which may include biases, and what we perceive as creativity is often just controlled randomness. The ultimate engineering goal is to move beyond impressive but lucky demonstrations and build systems that can be trusted to work reliably every time.
