I Tried Fine-Tuning a Robot AI Model on Colab. Here Is What Worked

A reproducible workflow for fine-tuning the OpenVLA robot AI model on Google Colab is presented. The process utilizes Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) to efficiently train a 7-billion-parameter vision-language-action model on a specific dataset of robot demonstrations. This method keeps the base model frozen while only updating a small set of adapter weights, making it practical for smaller-scale experiments. The walkthrough covers the dataset loading, training process, and verification of results using Weights & Biases to confirm that real training occurred.
