If we use AI to do our work – what is our job, then?

The increasing use of AI in the workplace raises questions about the future role of human workers, as AI tools can now handle tasks across various modalities. Over-relying on AI for core tasks risks turning professionals into managers of AI-driven work without developing deep expertise, making them more replaceable. To counter this, it is proposed that workers should use AI deliberately by following a "think first, prompt later" approach. This involves automating low-stake, repetitive tasks while reserving high-stake, ambiguous work that requires human judgment for manual effort, thereby protecting and building the skills that make one valuable and their work fulfilling.
