Warp now supports the latest OpenAI Codex models, delivering a 3-5% performance improvement for agentic coding tasks compared to standard GPT models. Integrating Codex required significant engineering, most notably implementing support for the `apply_patch` tool which uses the structured V4A patch format for higher-fidelity file editing. Additional prompt engineering was necessary, including renaming tools to align with the model's training data and removing certain preambles to prevent instability. These changes result in more reliable file edits, especially for large refactors, and reduce failure rates in multi-step coding sessions.
