Open-sourcing AstaBrief, the fast report-generation model in Asta

A new open-source model, AstaBrief 8B, transforms research questions and retrieved literature into fully cited scientific reports. Developed by Ai2, the model was fine-tuned on tens of thousands of real-world queries from scientists, focusing on data quality to ensure outputs remain grounded in evidence. This specialized approach allows AstaBrief to generate complete reports in a single pass, making it significantly faster than the proprietary models it was benchmarked against. By open-sourcing the model and its training data, the creators enable researchers to run it on their own infrastructure for privacy and to build upon the work for future scientific AI.
