AI21 Labs introduces J1-Grande, a mid-size language model positioned as a cost-effective alternative to the larger J1-Jumbo model. While significantly smaller than the 178B parameter J1-Jumbo, user feedback and testing indicate its text generation quality is comparable. J1-Grande offers a response time twice as fast as Jumbo at one-third the cost, providing a strong balance of price, quality, and speed. Benchmark data on various NLP tasks shows that in both zero-shot and few-shot scenarios, J1-Grande's accuracy is nearly on par with the much larger model.
