Thousand Token Wood: shipping a multi-agent economy on a 3B model

Thousand Token Wood is a multi-agent economic simulation featuring five woodland creatures, each powered by a 3-billion-parameter model. The system creates an emergent economy where agents trade goods, hoard resources, and react to market shocks like bubbles and crashes. To overcome the small model's weak reasoning, the simulation engineers scarcity and uses sharp prompting to guide agent behavior. This approach proved effective, allowing the system to model historical market events without being explicitly scripted. The project demonstrates the viability of using small models for complex, real-time simulations when paired with thoughtful system design.
