Mistral AI is promoting greater transparency regarding the environmental footprint of artificial intelligence. The company believes it is a collective responsibility for all stakeholders to understand and mitigate the environmental effects of AI innovations. To contribute to this goal, Mistral conducted a comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of its Large Language Models in partnership with environmental consulting firms. This study quantifies impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and resource depletion for both model training and inference, providing specific metrics for its models. The stated goal is to help establish a new standard for environmental reporting within the AI industry.
