Transformers Model Integration Contracts

https://huggingface.co/blog/transformers-mic(huggingface.co)
Model Integration Contracts (MICs) are a proposed standard for testing models within the Hugging Face Transformers library to prevent bugs from reaching the main branch. The system uses a "fixture," which is a small model shrunk from a real checkpoint while retaining all essential layer types, to run fast integration tests on a CPU. A contract combines this fixture with a runnable "usage path" and pre-recorded "baselines" of expected outputs to verify model behavior on every pull request. This approach was retrospectively shown to successfully detect a significant regression in a UMT5 model that had previously gone unnoticed for two months. The tooling aims to provide a practical way to catch bugs early without the prohibitive cost of running the full GPU test suite on every change.
