Your Agent’s Tools Can Make Decisions, Too

LLM agents can become more efficient by using tools that contain their own decision models to handle complex, multi-step tasks. This "decision-model-as-a-tool" pattern allows an agent to delegate an entire investigation, such as tracking a delayed order, through a single tool call. Inside this specialized tool, a cheaper and faster decision model autonomously runs a loop, calling various backend functions and gathering evidence. By managing these intermediate steps internally, the tool significantly reduces expensive round trips to the main LLM. The agent simply receives a complete set of findings, allowing it to focus its powerful reasoning on understanding the initial request and formulating the final answer.
